Background
Hanley Voices was originally created as Hanley Music, in 1992, by the head teacher of Hanley Castle High School at that time, Alan Johnston. He was an accomplished pianist and we were lucky to have his services as accompanist for many years.
Performances
We perform regularly, usually tackling a large work, perhaps a requiem mass around Easter, a light-hearted ‘Summer Soirée’ which includes a variety of songs, another concert in the autumn and a combined Christmas Carol Service with Hanley Castle High School in St.Mary’s church, Hanley Castle. Joint concerts with the school have been enjoyed and there are plans to do more in the future.
Previous major works include Orff - Carmina Burina, Duruflé - Requiem, Vivaldi - Gloria, Stainer - Crucifixion, Britten - St. Nicholas, Fauré - Requiem, Bernstein - Chichester Psalms, Mozart - Requiem, Rutter - Requiem, Alexander L'Estrange - Zimbe, Ahoy! Sing for the Mary Rose, Wassail! Carols of Comfort and Joy & Zadok Rules - Hallelujah! Haydn's Little Organ Mass and Will Todd's Mass in Blue.
We love the lighter side too and popular music is a big feature of our summer activity.
Fundraising
We have raised money for the Royal British Legion, Upton in Bloom, Hanley Castle High School, The Upton-upon-Severn Medical Trust (UMST), Castlemorton Parish Hall extension and regularly contribute to the church of St. Peter and St.Paul, Upton-upon-Severn, where we often perform.
